MHG specializes in insurance plans designed specifically to meet the needs of marine officers, crew and contractors, expatriates, and US residents.

MHG was established in the Port of Miami in 1991 and was founded on the principle that marine employers and employees should enjoy access to the same sort of insurance and benefit programs as are available to those based on land. The two founding partners were Andrew Dudzinski with his extensive background in expatriate insurance programs and John Haagensen who was himself a seafarer on cargo vessels and cruise ships before returning to shore to provide advice on Life and Health insurance to his former colleagues.
The focus was initially very much on the officers and crew within the cruise industry and after the early success of the individual products, the first employer-sponsored plans were rolled out in 1997.
1998 marked MHG's entry into the yachting industry, again with both individual as well as employer-sponsored programs, and this was swiftly followed by other areas of the marine industry such as commercial shipping, oil and gas and marine contractors and concessionaires.
With the Port of Miami premises no longer suitable, MHG moved its center of operations to Fort Lauderdale in 2006. This was accompanied in the same year by the opening of the first European office in Hamburg with the goal of providing improved support to European clients and further developing relationships with various insurance markets in the UK and mainland Europe.
A second European office followed in Douglas, Isle of Man, in 2009 with a view to capitalizing on local opportunities - particularly from within the yacht sector - as well as increasing the licensing reach of the MHG group globally.
Also in 2009, MHG's Fort Lauderdale office expanded its portfolio of products to include US Life & Health insurance and, in early 2010, property and liability insurance for U.S-based companies and individuals.
